After months of construction above Franklin Street and a soft opening period earlier this summer, the Stilllife nightclub and rooftop bar is set to fully open its doors.
The business, which is located at 159 East Franklin Street, said it is on track for its grand opening on Friday, August 19. The bar’s hours on Friday will be from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m., while there will be live music and entertainment from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Still Life expanded to Chapel Hill after opening in Greenville, NC, near East Carolina University and is leasing the space previously used by the Players club. Marketed toward a student-age population, the club offers dance areas and chances to hear nationally recognized musicians and DJs.
Still Life says its facility is split into four areas, with patrons accessing it through a stairwell and an elevator off the Amber Alleyway. The main level features the traditional nightclub space, while a speakeasy bar area called “The Drink” is nearby through a faux wall and offers a more relaxed atmosphere.
Additionally, the Chapel Hill Still Life features the Sky Bar and The Loft — two areas designated for those who are 21 years-old and up. The Sky Bar is described as a traditional “craft beer and sports bar” that can become an open air environment overlooking Franklin Street. The Loft is marketed as a “premier lounge and event space,” specifically designated for visitors who are 25 years-old and up.
During its soft opening phase, Still Life drew a significant crowd of student customers, with lines snaking through Amber Alley. Early customers toured the Sky Bar and The Loft areas.
“Still Life would like to formally thank everyone for their support throughout the years,” the club said in a statement about the Chapel Hill opening. “We are excited for the future and look forward to launching the new location in Chapel Hill with all our loyal customers and friends.”

According to its website, Still Life’s traditional hours are 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.
