NORMAN — The No. 2 Oklahoma men's golf team is set to open its 2020-21 season on Monday in the Big 12 Preview at Colonial Country Club in Ft. Worth, Texas. This is the first of the Sooners' four fall events.

"We feel so good being back on the road, and the guys are hungry and ready for this week," head coach Ryan Hybl said. "Colonial is always a great challenge and it requires you to be patient all day long. We are really looking forward to teeing it up tomorrow and getting started."

The 54-hole event will run through Tuesday, with 36 holes being played on Monday before the final round the following day. Colonial will present a challenge for the field, as the par-70, 7,204-yard course has played host to countless PGA Tour events and is a championship-level course.

The No. 2 Sooners will join a field comprised of every team in the Big 12, as the event will set the seeding for the Big 12 Match Play Championship in Hockley, Texas, later in the week.

The Big 12 has arguably been the best golf conference in the country over the past 10 years with three national championships, including the Sooners in 2017, and four runner-up finishes. To begin the 2020-21 season, five of the 10 Big 12 teams playing this week are ranked in the NCAA DI top 25. Nine of the players are ranked in the top 40 of the World Amateur Golf Rankings in Sandy Scott (TTU) #5, Pierceson Coody (UT) #9, Garett Reband (OU), #16 Cole Hammer (UT) #20, Ludvig Aberg (TTU) #21, Quade Cummins (OU) #23, Austin Eckroat (OSU) #25 and Cooper Dossey (BU) #33.

Oklahoma enters year 12 under Hybl, who has turned Oklahoma into one of the nation's top programs, taking home the 2017 NCAA Championship and multiple Big 12 titles in his tenure. The Sooners are the only team in the country to advance to NCAA Match Play each of the last four seasons, and boast a roster that features three players ranked in the top 15 nationally, more than any other school.

The tournament will utilize a 6-count-5 format as opposed to the normal play five and count four, in order to allow teams to play with teammates in groups of three. Oklahoma's lineup includes All-Americans, Quade Cummins and Jonathan Brightwell, in addition to senior Thomas Johnson, juniors Patrick Welch and Logan McAllister, as well as sophomore Tucker Allen.
