Want To Know If You Snore? Fitbit May Soon Be Able To Tell You - Forbes

Fitbit is reportedly planning to add snore detection to some wearables in its next software update.

9to5Google spotted several references to the feature in the upcoming app file, likely to be released soon.

Snore detection will use a wearable's microphone to listen out for the noises you make, and then rate your snoring based on how loud it is, and how often you snore. It will also look at how loud or quiet your bedroom is, information that could presumably be linked to interruptions in your sleep.

Fitbit already has very good sleep tracking. Its higher-end wearables break the night into sleep stages, monitor your breathing rate and measure your blood oxygen saturation through the night.

You'll also be categorized as a "sleep animal", like a hummingbird or a dolphin, although this probably relates to your sleep patterns, not just the timbre of your snores. 9to5Google says this appears to be in early development, so may not be switched on in the very next update.

It seems likely snore and environmental noise stats may come to the Fitbit platform as part of Fitbit Premium. This is a paid-for subscription service that offers guided workouts, diet plans, and a health dashboard that analyses metrics like breathing rate over time.

Which Fitbits could support this feature? They will need a microphone. Fitbits that have a mic include the Versa 2, Versa 3 and Sense.

The Fitbit Inspire 2 and Fitbit Luxe do not have a mic, so won't be able to use this feature. It's possible your phone could be used as the snore sensor hardware too, but don't hold your breath.
