The Southeastern Louisiana men's golf team begins play in the 2021 Southland Conference Men's Golf Championship Tournament Monday morning at 7:30 a.m. at Stonebridge Country-Dye Course.

The Lions, under sixth-year head coach Jake Narro, have competed in four tournaments this spring including capturing a share of the team championship at the Gulf Coast Intercollegiate Tournament Mar. 2.

Southeastern will represented by five student-athletes including Logan Kuehn, William Meyers, Kristopher Kerr, Cameron Mobley and Zack Barrios.

SLU enters the conference tournament ranked fourth in the Southland led by Kuehn. The senior leads the team in stroke average (73.10) shooting even par in four of 10 rounds. The Lake Charles, Louisiana native has two top 10 finishes to his credit placing third at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational and seventh at the Gulf Coast Intercollegiate.

"Logan drives it well and keeps it in play," said Narro. "He's a tenacious competitor so even if he starts out badly then he can still finish with a good round. But when you have those qualities it leads to a lot of consistent performances."

Mobley, out of Brandon, Mississippi, isn't far behind Kuehn with a 74.0 stroke average. The sophomore has finished in the top 15 in three of the Lions' four tournaments. After placing 12th at the Colin Montgomerie Intercollegiate and 15th at the Bearkat Invitational, Mobley also had a runner up finish at the Gulf Coast Intercollegiate.

"Cameron's been great for us," said Narro. "He's a big part of why we're ranked highly in the conference. He's an aggressive player all the way around and he's not afraid of the big moment which is why he's been so successful."

Historically, SLU has fared well at the conference championship with seven finishes in the top four in the last 10 years. Southeastern finished fourth in 2019 and took home the title in 2010 and 2013. The Lions also finished runner up in 2014 and 2016 while placing third in 2011 and 2015.

"I think we do a good job each year of trying to build to this point," said Narro. "It's a challenging course and sometimes other teams don't like it, but we embrace it. We understand that it's going to be a tough course but we enjoy it so we're ahead of the game before we tee-off."

Sam Houston, ranked 49th nationally in the GolfStat.Com team polls, comes in as the favorite after winning back-to-back titles in 2018 and 2019.

"I think there is little more positive feel this year because we've played better," said Kuehn. "It's going to be a difficult course for sure, but I think if we are play the way we are capable of then it's very doable to win it all."
