8,200 tons of salt at the ready Manistee County roads, highways - Manistee News Advocate

carunya.blogspot.com

Residents are reminded to take the following actions in winter:

• Refrain from pushing snow onto or across the plowed portion of the roadway or shoulders. Mark Sohlden, Manistee County Road Commission manager, sais this practice is "both dangerous and illegal," and that anyone performing this action could be held liable for property damages or personal injury resulting from any accidents that may be caused as a result.

• Remove snow from around their mail and newspaper boxes so they are visible to snowplow drivers.

• Check the condition of the mailboxes and posts and ensure they can withstand snow and ice from any snow plowing operations.

• Keep trash bins and other waste receptacles away from the traveled roadway so the commission can perform its winter maintenance work.

• Drive according to road and weather conditions and be mindful of road commission vehicles.

• Do not travel unless necessary during severe winter events.
