CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Natrona County Emergency Management team prepares the community for what to do when disaster strikes. It can be alarming, but having a plan is the first step towards safety.

“Preparedness for disasters either natural or man-made should be on everybody’s to do list now. Preparedness starts early. There’s a lot of simple things that you can do that can make it a lot easier for you in those crisis situations,” said Michael Cavalier, the deputy coordinator at NCEM.

When working on a plan, Natrona County Emergency Management suggest having something set for 72 hours up to two weeks. Your emergency plan needs to be set to your household’s needs. When putting together a plan, make sure you include your children, pets, and any other family that may be in the household too.

Natrona County First Responders work together to monitor and plan for community safety. Whether this is exercises, talking to businesses, or analyzing plans, they work together to put the safety of the community first.

“We get together and we look at what kind of threats, you know, do we see is potential issues and then from that we identify different things that we can do to help mitigate the risk,” said Cavalier.

Natrona County Emergency Management suggests following a Ready Set Go plan. The Ready phase begins with preparedness. Set and Go can happen together in emergencies.

“Emergencies are very rapid sometimes so it might be just right there at the go phase. Let’s go we need you to evacuate now and you’re gonna take that plan that you put into place ahead of time and you’re gonna go ahead and go and activate it,” said Cavalier.

The Ready Set Go program is messaging Natrona County will continue to use to keep people safe.
